Seven reasons to support Dacotah Tipis

Habitat for Humanity helps families become stakeholders in their own communities and, in the process, helps strengthen the neighborhood and communities in which we all live, work and flourish.

Habitat:

  1. Enables families to provide stability for their children.
  2. Instills a family’s sense of dignity and pride.
  3. Helps families become responsible homeowners.
  4. Strengthens and unites communities in a common goal.
  5. Provides decent housing in communities attracting economic investment and development.
  6. Volunteering is an excellent opportunity to have fun and give back.
  7. Program is one of self-empowerment: It is a “hand up”, not a “handout.”

New Years Resolution to “Volunteer”?

Determined to make a difference?

If your New Years Resolution is to give back to society or if you just want to experience the joy and happiness so many are finding in volunteerism, we can help you…and you can help us!

Why Not Join A Habitat for Humanity Committee?

Dacotah Tipis Habitat for Humanity International is an ecumenical Christian ministry on the Crow Creek Reservation in need of volunteers to serve on our Development Committees. When some people think about Habitat for Humanity, they think about working on the construction of houses. The folks that hammer nails at the construction sites are important volunteers, but so are the men and women who work behind the scenes on various committees to make sure that houses get funded and built.

Are you interested in…?

  • Working with our partner families during their building and education process?
  • Working with companies and foundations to further the Dacotah Tipis’ mission?
  • Working with faith-based organizations to foster an interest in volunteering and financial partnership?
  • Working with teachers and students to promote an interest in Habitat?

We have a need for committee volunteering due to the amount of fundraising, planning, and management required to achieve our mission. All committees meet monthly and more often if necessary as a specific project date approaches. Regular attendance at meetings and for committee work is expected. Dacotah Tipis currently has a few vacancies on the following committees.

Construction Committee plans and organizes the builds, and supervises construction.
Fundraising Committee raises funds and ‘gifts in kind’ from a broad array of events and sponsors.
Public Relations Committee generates interest in Dacotah Tipis HFH by expanding awareness of its mission and happenings. This may include newsletter publishing, direct mail marketing, or social networking.
Faith Relations Committee fosters interest in Dacotah Tipis HFH including volunteerism, and financial and prayer support partnerships among our church partners.
Family Support Committee provides a wide range of service to Habitat families, including homeowner education and financial literacy courses, and continued support.
Family Selection Committee develops and implements policies and procedures for selecting eligible families into the Habitat partnership.
Volunteer Committee recruits and organizes volunteers for work on Dacotah Tipis HFH projects including building, committees and events.
Site Committee works with municipalities, individuals, the real estate community and others to find property for the Dacotah Tipis HFH projects portfolio. This committee also manages the horticulture activities on developed portfolio properties.
